Simple Stretching Routine
10 min guided flow
I started working out around 16 years old. Quickly became a meathead.. Got into bodybuilding & power lifting. Two sports I admire deeply. But aren’t the most “functional”.
As a typical meathead, I lifted heavy. Got really strong. But along the way - I lost a lot of functionality within my body. My body became tight. My mobility decreased year over year.
It wasn’t until I suffered a devastating knee injury (non training related) in 2020 did my approach to training & the way I take care of my body change. At the same time I was approaching 30 years old as well.
I was forced to spend a lot more time stretching. Doing “mobility” every day. I had no option.. It was the only way I could keep training at a high level. At the time (2022) I had just gotten into Ironman triathlons. Biking, swimming & running a LOT every week. At one point my total training was nearly 20 hours per week. To offset this - I had to do 60-90 min of intentional mobility per day.
Along the way, I began to fall in love with stretching. I found benefits not only for my body (improved flexibility.. performance in training etc), but even more impactful was the way it helped me ease stress. It helped me sleep better. It was having a profound impact on my mental health as a result.
These days I spend anywhere from 30-90 minutes a day stretching & moving around on my yoga mat. As a new father, my time has become more limited than ever. But prioritizing things like stretching has become more important than ever.
I find time to get it in still by
#1) Getting up early. I’ll get 30-45 min in before my son & wife wake up
#2) Finding 5-10 min windows throughout my work day to pop into a flow
#3) Habit stacking. If my wife and I are watching tv in the evening after the boy goes to sleep. I’ll get on the floor & stretch for 20-40 minutes.
There are so many different stretches & mobility flows out there. It can be overwhelming. Easy to fall into a “paralysis by analysis”.
If you’re feeling the call to stretch your body more, but aren’t sure where to start. I built a simple 10 min flow for you to follow. It targets your entire body.
Give it a try!
